The Edinburgh Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the world. I'm a proud Edinburger and growing up watching shows every summer in my beloved hometown, I'd always wanted to perform at the Fringe. This is where our journey began! My partner Nate flew in from Germany to help record my first concert in Scotland. Lacking sponsors and with very few resources to film, the first part was shot right before my concert and it was extremely stressful. Both myself and the filmmaker Nate needed to develop a working relationship and master new equipment in only two hours!
Being an Edinburgh local means we get to find the coolest venues at the most affordable prices. I've always been a big fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the author of Sherlock Holmes) and was thrilled to have found this beautiful venue completed with amazing acoustic, a vintage piano and a stunning chandelier. This performance marks not only the beginning, but also the transition of my music journey. I single handedly organised the concert from application, venue hunting, recruiting musicians to designing my poster. It was a small concert but certainly no bed of roses!
I'd chosen a Taiwanese song, a Scottish song and 7 of my own songs for this meaningful concert. Although most people couldn't understand a word of Chinese and Taiwanese but I think I did my best to convey my passion through my voice. There were a handful of Taiwanese attendees, it was so rewarding when they told me how much they had enjoyed my show and how touching it was to hear our languages sung so beautifully.... thousands of miles away in Scotland.
